Hostel Description
The Smiddy Bunkhouse (sleeps 12 in bunkrooms of 4 and 8 persons) & Blacksmiths Hostel (Sleeps 14 in 2 rooms of 4 plus one room of 8 persons) are both fully self catered.
We are located 4 miles from Ben Nevis at the south western end of the Caledonian Canal in a convenient village location at Corpach. This is on the A830 to Mallaig 4 miles NW from Fort William close to the West Highland Railway Line (steam trains in summer). There is immediate access to the Road to the Isles ? to Mallaig 47 miles away or the Great Glen Ways 77 miles to Inverness? for long distance walking, paddling, cycling or sailing. This is the real start to the LDR Great Glen Way.
The area is peacefully exciting with loads of outdoor activities nearly on the doorstep ? there is a resident on site mountain and river guide for instruction, guiding, information and advice for climbing, hill walking, kayaking, open canoeing and dinghy sailing, and winter climbing. We also hire out canoes, kayaks and sailing dinghies to those who have paddled or sailed before plus fishing rod and mountain bike hire. Nevis range ski area is 5 miles away. There are also loads of excellent mountain bike trails in the area plus local forest walks, wild life watching, quad biking, ski-ing and snowboarding.
Our kitchens are fully self catered and well equipped. The accommodation is fully heated for all year round use ? and our showers are HOT. There are 2 efficient drying rooms plus laundry facilities for all your wet cloths. A patio and barbeque are an ideal place to sit and chat in the evenings. A fully equipped meeting / lecture room is also available. There is secure storage for your bikes or kayaks.
Please telephone us on arrival if you arrive after 1700 hrs. We do not accept arrivals after 10pm unless by prior arrangement. Payment is by cash or GB cheque.

Hostel Directions
Snowgoose Mountain Centre operates from Corpach, Fort William.
Take the A82 north out of Fort William for about 1.5 miles. At the set of traffic lights one mile north of Fort William take the A830 which is signposted to Mallaig.
At the village of Corpach, 4 miles out from Fort William, opposite the Key Grocery store (which is on the right facing Mallaig) is a left hand turn to Corpach Basin. We are 40 yards down this road to Corpach Railway Station on the left.Find us immediately before the railway crossing. We are sign posted with a large blue / white sign on the main road(A830) as Snowgoose Mountain Centre / Smiddy Bunkhouse & Blacksmiths Backpackers Hostel.
If you are coming to us by train from Glasgow then book your ticket to Corpach - stay on the train in Fort William as this train will then go out to Mallaig - sometimes you may need to change to the local train. Get off 2 stops after Fort William at Corpach. If you ring us we will meet you off the train. This is all much easier that getting off the train in Fort William then having to catch a bus out to us - or walk!!
If you are coming by local bus then buses (Service No 45) leave Corpach / Fort William every 20 minutes from 6am to 6pm - every hour thereafter until 22.30. These buses leave from Middle Street in Fort William. In Corpach the bus stop is a 2 minute walk from the hostel. The location of Snowgoose Mountain Centre is at the head of the tidal waters of Loch Linnhe, 20 miles in either direction from the open sea, within a very short distance of widely ranging grades of white water, rock and mountains, means that we can offer an extensive range of water and mountain based activities for all grades, from one hour to one week. We are 5 miles from the superb Aonach Mhor ski area with its all year round gondola facility and 15 miles from Glencoe.
