Glin, Co. Limerick
This charming village 32 miles west of Limerick City on the N69, stands on the south shore of the Shannon River. The Tarbert / Killimer Car Ferry is a short 10 minutes away.
Glin was once famous as a salmon fishery. Glin Castle is the seat of the Knight of Glin, whose family (Fitzgerald) have had lands here for over 700 years. The castle is owned and occupied by the 29th Knight of Glin and is now a luxury hotel.
The glorious Demesne is a formal garden featuring well-kept shrubs, blooming flowers and a fine vegetable garden used to grow vegetables prepared in the castle kitchen.
The parsons Restaurant just outside the village offers the best of food all year round.
O'Driscoll's B&B is also an ideal touring base for the mid-west and south-west of Ireland.
