Hostel Description

Lotus Lodge (formerly Wanlockhead Youth Hostel) was purchased privately in 2006 from the Scottish Youth Hostel Association, and has undergone extensive refurbishment. The accommodation is now bright, comfortable and cozy with full gas central heating throughout. The relaxing guest lounge has a wood burning stove, comfortable couches. Television and CD player, an ideal place to put your feet after a long day walking/cycling/sightseeing. The fully modernized kitchen has a gas hob and electric oven, as well as a feature wood burning range cooker.

There is a twin bedroom, a family bedroom ? sleeping up to 6 people, and two bunk rooms ? one sleeping up to 8 and the other sleeping up to 12 people. The hostel also has a drying room, laundry and secure bike shed.

Lotus Lodge is self-catering but the village pub is only 2 minutes walk away and offers good pub meals and a great pint (closed Monday & Tuesday). Continental breakfast is provided in the hostel along with fresh bed linen, duvets and pillows, all at no extra charge.

Nestling in the Lowther Hills, Wanlockhead is only 1 hour from Glasgow, 1 hour from Prestwick Airport, 1 hour from Carlisle, 1½ hours from Edinburgh and 45 mins from Dumfries. Additionally, Wanlockhead is only a 15 minute detour from the M74 therefore it is an interesting and convenient stopover on trips North or South.

As well as being directly on the Southern Upland Way, the Lands End to John O?Groats Cycle route passes through Wanlockhead. This coupled with the fact that Wanlockhead is the highest village in Scotland it is no surprise that the area surrounding the village offers stunning walks, cycles, and drives. The award-winning Scottish Lead Mining Museum is also only minutes from the hostel where you can experience a real lead mine and pan for gold! It is also a great base from which to explore Southern Scotland.

Lotus Lodge can accommodate up to 28 people and group bookings ? whether it be for walking/cycling groups or family/friends looking for a weekend get together ? are welcome.

Lisa and Richie look forward to extending you a warm welcome in their relaxing, friendly hostel.
