"The Capital of the Fjords" is among Norway?s prettiest and most exciting cities. The student town has great atmosphere with a bustling fish market, cosy cafés and bakeries (try out the local cinnamon rolls!) and narrow, cobbled streets. Stroll along the 16th century harbour side ?Bryggen? with its famous wooden buildings, take a trip to Troldhaugen - home of composer Edvard Grieg or visit Old Bergen and Fantoft Stave Church.

The Montana hostel is situated at the foot of Mount Ulriken, one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Bergen. From the hostel there is a beautiful view of the town centre and great hiking opportunities. The famous cable car ?Ulriksbanen? takes you to the top of Mount Ulriken, and is only a 5 minutes walk from the hostel.

Cable car to the Ulriken Mountain
A seven minutes walk from our youth hostel you will find the cable car to the Ulriken Mountain?one of Bergen's most visited attractions. From the top?642 metres above sea level?there's a magnificent view over Bergen. If you're up for a hike, you can hike over the mountain plateau to the Floyen Mountain (Fløyen), which is located by the city centre. You can buy tickets to the cable car at our reception. Discount for members.

Buses:
The bus number 31 leaves Strandgaten in the middle of the city centre, outside the Xhibition shopping centre, and from Kong Oscars gate near the railway station. It uses approximately 15 minutes, and when you exit the bus, you'll be about 200 metres from the youth hostel.

To find the bus stop from the railway station, exit the railway station through the main entrance. When looking towards the park with the water fountain (direction of the city centre) head to your right, and keep walking in this direction until you enter the street named "Kong Oscars gate". Find a bus stop (at the railway station-side of the road), and take bus no. 31-"Laegdene". Ask the bus driver to tell you when you arrive at Montana.

Find us by car
From Voss:
Follow E16 towards Bergen. After approximately 85 km (at Ulset), the road goes over in E39. Near Bergen, at Danmarksplass in Fjosangerveien, you'll come to a large road junction (crossroads) with traffic lights. Take left and continue along this road (Ibsensgate) until you get out on a new road (road number 585, also called "riksvei 585"). Take right, and continue approximately 1/2-1 km until you see a sign pointing to Montana. Follow the signs all the way to Montana Youth Hostel.

From the city centre:
Follow Kong Oscars gate / road 585 south. When you enter Haukeland ? the main hospital area ? you'll pass through a tunnel. Shortly after the tunnel you'll see a sign to Montana. Follow the signs until you reach us.
