Mont St. Michel (France)

We offer bed and breakfast hostel accommodation in a 200 year old house in Brittany. All rooms are en-suite with tea and coffee facilities. There is transport to and from Mont St. Michel every day.

Situated just 30 minutes drive from the ferry port of St. Malo and 6 miles via les Poulders, from the world-heritage site of Mont St Michel, we are ideally located for weekend breaks or a longer vacation!

For guests arriving on foot, please telephone us when you arrive at the bus or railway station, and we will pick you up, no charge. Transport is provided to and from Mont St. Michel daily, drop off after breakfast and pick up later in the day. Many of our guests choose to make use of our bicycles which are 5 euros to rent for the day. The route to Mont St. Michel is along quiet farm roads, with almost no traffic. The land is very flat and you will be able to see magnificent views of the Mont along the route.

Mont St. Michel, a must for anyone visiting the area! There are organized walks in the bay of Mont St. Michel N.B. if you wish to walk in the bay you should only do so on the organized tours. The bay has the second fastest tide in the world; it comes in at the speed of a galloping horse. There are many other walks starting from local villages, most of which give the opportunity for panoramic views across the bay.

Also the walled city of St. Malo is just a short drive along the coast, or catch the bus which stops outside our front door. All the local towns have regular markets that are well worth a visit, the nearest beach is only 10 minutes away in the village of Cherrieux, which is renowned for its sand yachting. Within 30 minutes drive there are the beautiful medieval towns of Dinan and Dol De Bretagne, the ancient capital of Brittany. Across the unique "Barrage de la Rance" is the holiday resort of Dinard, very British in style with its Edwardian architecture.

Visit the fairytale château at Combourg; or for the children, the zoo and château at nearby La Bourbonsais or the Cobac water-park.

Along the coast is the small port of Cancale, famous for its oysters, which are harvested in the bay, along with the famous mussels or "moules de bouchots."

We have a very friendly bar in the village, the ?Oystercatcher,? where very good cheap food can be purchased; everyone loves Kevin?s chicken curry and chips. A barbecue area is available in our garden for guests who would like to bring their own food.

We are in the hamlet of Colombel, just outside the village of St. Marcan on the D797, between the villages of St Broladre and La Poultière. We are situated on the corner of the D797 and the D89 turning for the village of St. Marcan opposite the Tric'horn Café. We have blue shutters.

If you are arriving from St.Malo, head for Dol de Bretagne on the N137 and N176. Leave the N176 at the exit after Dol centre ville, (D80) sign-posted Fougères, Laval and St. Broladre. Turn left for St. Broladre and then head towards Mont St. Michel on the D797.We are about 1 mile from St Broladre on the right hand side, opposite Tric'horn Kafe.

From Rennes, follow signs to St. Malo on the N137 and then Dol de Bretagne, N176.

If you are coming from any of the northern ports, head for Mont St. Michel on the N176. Exit the N176 at the first junction after Pontorson sign-posted St. Goerge de Grehaigne, Roz Sur Couesnon. Turn right on D797 heading in direction of St Malo (par la cote); we are about 5 km along the road, opposite the Trik'horn Kafe. From Calais follow signs for Rouen and then signs for Mont St. Michel.
From Pontorson follow signs for St Malo par la cote, we are on the (rout de la baie)

For guests arriving on foot, get a train to Pontorson or Dol de Bretagne. either email day before or telephone and one of us will meet you at railway station, no charge. From St Malo number 17 bus to Fougeres, get off at Tric'horn Kafe St Marcan, stops outside our front door.
