Book the Best Hostels in Poland (Warsaw)

Europe Hostels

The capital of Poland has become quite a trendy destination in the last few years. After the collapse of the Soviet Union it took a number of years before tourist services were built up enough to handle the curious new visitors, but that day has passed and now backpackers and other budget travelers are making their way to Warsaw in record numbers. Hotels in the city aren’t quite as cheap as you might expect, but luckily there are plenty of Warsaw hostels to choose from with prices that are very reasonable.

The city is very spread out and there are hostels in several different neighborhoods so you should consider your location very carefully before booking. The city was mostly flattened during World War II so most of the buildings there now are fairly new. The Old Town section has been restored as accurately as possible, and that district is the best area for tourists with the highest density of worthwhile attractions, although it’s the most expensive area of town as well.

It might be tempting to trade off location for price, but Warsaw hostels tend to be quite cheap compared to all the expenses of getting to town, so it may not be wise to try to save just a few Euros by booking yourself into an inconvenient location.

The main train station, Warsaw Central, is on the same side of the river as the Old Town district. It’s not too far to walk from the station into the heart of Old Town, so staying near the station is not a bad location, especially if you’ll only be in town for a day or two.

The Hostel Helvetica is not one of the larger hostels in Warsaw, but they are a full service place with a good location and they are quite popular. Bunks in their 6-bed dorm rooms start around €14, and they also over several private twin rooms, some with en-suite and some without, starting around €20 per night per person, including breakfast.

The Oki Doki Hostel has an even more central location and has won awards as the top Warsaw Hostel more than once. Their cheapest beds are in their 6 and 8-bunk rooms starting around €13 per night. They also have free internet for all guests, a bar, and cheap bike rental. Their private twin rooms start around €20 per person per night, and include breakfast.

Hostel Kanonia is in the pedestrian-only zone in Old Town just a couple blocks from the river. Their cheapest beds are in their 10 and 12-bunk rooms starting around €13 per night, but they have many smaller rooms including double private rooms with a shared bathroom starting around €17 per person per night. They’ve got free internet, bicycle rentals, and also a travel desk where guests can get local information on things to see in Warsaw as well as discounts on certain attractions.
