Valencia hasn’t been a must-visit stop on the tourist trail in Spain for too long, but things are rapidly changing. Hotel prices are reasonable compared to Madrid and Barcelona, and prices of Valencia hostels are even more reasonable. More than in most places, prices for the cheapest beds in Valencia hostels vary widely. Location is always a major factor, but a few of them are more deluxe than the others so choose your hostel in Valencia carefully.

This pleasant city on the Mediterranean was greatly spruced up in preparation for the 2007 America’s Cup yacht race. The entire port area is being updated and is becoming more interesting for travelers. This city of almost a million people had ignored their seafront area for decades, using it only as a major shipping port, but development near the coast is really picking up so the city center may not be the most desirable location for long.

The Center Valencia Hostel just opened in just opened in the summer of 2007 with a great location right in the tangle of the streets in Valencia’s old center. They have 33 rooms with between 4 and 8 beds in each, with their 8-bed rooms starting around €15 per person per night, including their breakfast buffet and free internet. They offer many handy services for the traveler, including bike rental.

The Russafa Youth Hostel is not far away in the central district. Their dorm rooms have only 3 or 4 beds each, with the cheapest starting around €23 per night, but they also have private twin rooms with shared bathroom starting around €34 per night per person.

The Hôme Backpackers Hostel is a large and popular place also located right in the historic center of town. It’s one of the cheapest hostels in Valencia with beds in their 8, 10, and 14-bunk dorms starting around €14 per night. They have two roof terraces and a large common room, and they also hold various events for guests throughout the week. Sundays they have a paella class where they show you how to make this classic Spanish dish that is native of Valencia, before eating it.

The Rooms Deluxe Hostel is a bit out of the city center, but it’s fairly close to the beach and much of the new development in Valencia that is bringing focus to the coastal area. It’s only about 100 meters from the giant new City of Arts and Science project, so if visiting that is high on your list the location here is excellent. They are one of the more expensive hostels in Valencia, but they do offer a unique twist for your money. They have 28 private rooms for either 2 or 3 guests each, and each has its own bathroom and each was decorated into a different theme by a different artist. There is a room decorated like a Buddhist temple and another with a flamenco theme. Prices start around €38 per person per night, including breakfast and also use of their large and swank lounge room.
