Most of Prague's hostels are located near the old part of town, but not inside it. Ringing that part of the city like a castle wall, at night an impenetrable wall of tourists, locals, bar flys and frat boys on vacation take to the street and imbibe their memories of the sights into oblivion.

Some hostels in Prague, like the rest of Europe, have begun offering more and more entertainment options for travelers staying at their establishment. Pub crawls, tours and trips around the city can all now be part of your stay at a Prague hostel for only a small additional fee.

Accommodations at hostels have also been improving as hostels move in to the market to compete with hotels. As hostels try to compete, they are offering more and more private roms with shared bathrooms. Hostels have found that if they are offered a lower price on the room patrons do not mind sharing a bathroom as long as they can lock their valuables away during the day while they go tour the city and do not have to worry about the security of their belongings.

If you do have to share a room, you can increase the security of your belongings with a padlock. Several baggage companies make lockable bags, or many hostels supply cabinets with latches that lock but you have to provide the lock and the key.

Some hostels also have a policy of separating guests by gender in shared rooms, although this is not universal and if it is a concern of yours and you plan to book a shared room, you should check with the hostel before you arrive.

Prague hostels start at the unbelievably cheap 150 Koruna per night, which works out to about seven dollars and 50 cents in the United States. Some hostels will run upwards of 400 Koruna per night, but that is still less than many hotels.

Reserve your room before you go to make sure that you have somewhere to stay when you arrive in Prague. Booking online in advance allows you to guarantee a spot in a room upon your arrival so that you can go out and worry about more important things, like getting in to the best club in Prague and where the night will end up taking you.
