Book the Best Hostels in France (Paris)
If you haven’t been there yet, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that the hype is true in this case. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. There are hotels all over the city and most of them are out of the price range of the budget traveler. Fortunately there are also hostels all over the city so you can stay in the same neighborhood as a fancy hotel and spend far less in a Paris hostel.
In most European cities there is one central area that is clearly the best for sightseers because everything is clustered around that area, but this isn’t the case in Paris. It’s not a huge city like London or Berlin, but the interesting sights are spread out almost equally throughout the general city center.
The good thing about this is you can stay almost anywhere and you’ll be close to a few important things, but of course the bad part is you’ll be a distance from even more things no matter where you stay. The great equalizer is the Paris has an exceptional (if not exceptionally clean) Metro system. The lines crisscross all through the city and there are stations every few blocks.
It will cost more to stay close to the Eiffel Tower or the Champs-Élysées, but there is really no point to staying near them unless you are on your honeymoon. Those things can be easily visited during the day no matter where you stay. There are hostels in Paris in nearly every neighborhood and most of them are better situated for good nightlife than the area around the Louvre anyway.
The Montmarte district is a favorite with travelers. This community on a hill was formerly a slum that attracted only the working class and starving artists, but now it’s one of the trendier parts of Paris and very lively at night. The Le Village in Montmarte has dorms with only three beds each as well as private twin rooms with prices starting around €27 Euros per person in either including breakfast.
The Perfect Hostel is also in Montmarte and features small rooms as well. Their rooms are private with three beds each and a shared bathroom, and for around €23 per person it’s a great value in this entertainment-filled district.
The Woodstock Hostel shares the Montmarte neighborhood as well, but instead of just small rooms they feature 6-bed dorms with bunks starting around €20 per night. The Woodstock is a notorious party hostel so if you are traveling with a group of between 4 and 6 this is the perfect place to book a whole room to yourselves. Breakfast is included and they have their own small bar, but it should be noted that the Woodstock has a daytime lock-out from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. so the rooms can be cleaned. They also have a curfew of 2 a.m., but in Paris that’s about the time everything is winding down anyway. This is a fun city, but it’s not known for its parties until dawn.
