Naples is a huge city with a mixed reputation. It’s loaded with important historical sights and it’s right next to Mt. Vesuvius along the coast, but it’s also known for pollution, horrible traffic, and petty theft. There aren’t nearly as many tourists or hotels as there are in Rome, and prices tend to be far more reasonable in Naples. There are many budget hotels in the city, but hostels in Naples still have an interesting advantage here because most of the budget hotels that compete in price with the Naples hostels are not of international standard. That’s right, if you book a super cheap hotel in Naples you’ll discover that it’s probably falling apart and with limited plumbing. Naples hostels are a fairly safe way to go, and a great way to meet other travelers as well.

As with most older cities – and this one dates back many centuries B.C. – it’s most desirable to stay in or near the historical center in Naples. Most of the sights can be reached on foot and there is also a dense network of restaurants and bars in the Old Town section that are very handy for travelers. Booking a place on the outskirts to save a bit of money can leave a visitor spending half their days going back and forth. And in a city as chaotic as Naples, it’s good not to have to rely on public transportation and the crowded roadways to get around.

The Hostel & Hotel Bella Capri has a great central location overlooking the port right on the waterfront. Their cheapest beds are in their 8-bed dorm rooms starting around €16 per night, but they have rooms with as few as 4 beds for only a bit more. The Bella Capri also has private rooms with between 1 and 4 beds with their single rooms starting around €65 per night, but the 4-bed rooms start around €20 per night per person so they are a great deal if you’ve got a group of four. Breakfast is included and they have free wifi throughout.

Hostel of the Sun has a great location just around the corner from the Bella Capri. Their cheapest beds are in their 7-bed mixed dorm starting around €16 per night. They also have private rooms with between 2 and 4 beds per room, so they are a great deal if you are with a small group. Prices for the private rooms start around €20 up to about €28 per person per night, and many of the rooms have their own bathrooms. They have free breakfast and internet, as well as daily scheduled activities including free pizza night and local outings.

The Hostel Soggiorno Imperia is also in the historical center, but not quite as close to the port. They are on the top floor of a 16^th Century building with a quiet location that is also walking distance to most of the central attractions. Their 4-bed dorms start around €20 per person per night, but they also have private singles and doubles with shared bathrooms. Singles start around €34, which is a great deal for a well-located hostel in Naples. Breakfast is included for all guests.
