Book the Best Hostels in Spain (Malaga)

Europe Hostels

This city is the largest on Spain’s infamous Costa del Sol, and it serves as the major entry point for air passengers coming from throughout Europe. Some people say the area is one big congested strip of chain hotels and that Malaga itself isn’t particularly nice either, but this is still a very popular area for visitors, particularly when it’s cold in the rest of Europe. Hotel prices in Malaga aren’t terribly high compared to other European cities, but there are a handful of hostels in Malaga that are even more reasonably priced for the backpacking set.

The focus of the whole region tends to be the beach, but visitors who explore the old city center of Malaga are rewarded with a fairly charming town and a few fascinating sights. Picasso was born in Valencia so there is a museum dedicated to him here, as well as his birthplace. And there are two large castles near the city center as well. The Malaga hostels are quite spread out so it’s important to choose one based on what you intend to do in the region.

Picasso’s Corner Backpackers Hostel is the only hostel in Malaga that boasts a city center location. All the city’s attractions are within walking distance including only a 5-minute walk to Malaga’s best shopping area and a 10-minute walk to the beach. Bunks in their 4-bed dorms start around €19 per night including breakfast, and private double rooms with shared bathrooms start only a few Euros more per person per night.

The Melting Pot Backpackers Hostel is located just a couple of short blocks from the beach a little east of the city center. The beach here is much nicer than the close beaches to the city center, so if you are looking for a Malaga hostel that is close to the shore this is a great location. They have rooms with 6 to 8 beds in each, starting for around €15 per night including breakfast. They also have free internet as well as a restaurant and bar.

The Jacinto Benavente is a hostel and university residence located outside the central Malaga area, but they are right on the major bus lines so getting around isn’t a major problem if you don’t mind riding the buses. They have 70 rooms with between 1 and 6 beds in each. All the bed prices are in the same general price range so the bunks in the 6-bed rooms aren’t such a great deal, but with beds in single private rooms with a shared bathroom also going for around €21 per night including breakfast, so they are a great deal among Malaga hostels if you are alone.

The Residencia Universitaria Guadalmar is another university residence that doubles as a hostel. They are only a 10-minute walk from the beach, but not near the city center. They have rooms with between 2 and 6 beds, starting around €18 per person per night. Their private twin rooms go for around €22 per night, which is a pretty good deal for this area, and all rooms include a free breakfast buffet.
