Europe Hostels
Hostels-Glasgow

If you can understand the accent, your stay in a Glasgow hostel will be a highlight of your trip. Glaswegians are some of the friendliest in Europe; even the rainy summers can't dampen their innate hospitality.

Glasgow hostels are scattered throughout the city, although you'll find a few more clustered together downtown. Hostels usually attract nightlife and in Glasgow you'll find it everywhere in the city, but especially on Sauchiehall Street, near the Blue Sky Hostel, one of the least expensive hostels in Glasgow.

A more traditional hostel experience can be found in Glasgow, the city is full of those backpacking across the continent in search of a fun time and fun people. Meeting people can be one of the most rewarding parts of staying in a hostel. The common area can be a great place to relax and listen to the stories accumulated by numerous travelers trying to best the last tale.

But hostels are not exclusively for the rugged backpacker. Recently the hostel industry has been offering more of a hybrid of the hotel and hostel experience, providing more private rooms for their travelers but without in-room bathrooms or showers. Glasgow hostels are among the higher quality rooms in Europe, generally with carpeted floors and a homey atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the usually rainy weather that Glasgow and the rest of Scotland is famous for.

Hostels in Glasgow are numerous, you'll have more to choose from than in most cities in Europe and the abundance of rooms has kept the prices more reasonable than hostels in London or Paris. A typical, shared room in Glasgow starts at 20 euros and the price climbs from there if you want a private room.

Private rooms can be a real benefit to a room; the locking door allows you to lock valuables behind a door that only you (and the management) have access to, but that convenience comes at a price. Private rooms jump up in price to between 25 and 28 euros a night.

With its long tradition of hostels offering tenants an affordable bed for the night, Glasgow can sometimes give you a very traditional hostel as well. Although this is not the case everywhere, there are some curfews in place and establishments whose front desk closes up for the night around midnight. Although it is becoming more common to have a combination on the front door rather than a lock, not all hostels have made the switch. Check with a manager or a staff member for the combination before you get stuck locked out of the building or waiting for someone with the combination to come and let you in.

During big events or music festivals, hostels in Glasgow can become a bit scarce. Allow for the unforeseen overcrowding by making a reservation in advance online. Guaranteeing an available spot in a room you can check out beforehand on the website only adds to your peace of mind and enjoyment of a trip.
