Book the Best Hostels in Ireland (Dublin)
Ireland has been booming for the last decade or so, and there is nowhere that is more evident than in its capital and largest city. Unfortunately, hotel prices in Dublin have been booming as well, so it’s a good thing there are many Dublin hostels to choose from, to keep budget travel possible.
There are loads of hostels in Dublin, but many places calling themselves hostels, or at least that wind up in the hostel listings, are in suburban locations. Dublin’s city center is fairly compact and quite a few places nearer the airport offer reasonable prices, but aren’t good locations for people who want to experience the city’s famous nightlife.
Speaking of that famous nightlife, it’s mainly concentrated around Dublin’s notorious Temple Bar district. This is the medieval part of town with thin cobblestone streets with one bar after another, all featuring the city’s most famous export apart from U2, Guinness Stout. This is also one of the more expensive parts of town in which to sleep, but fortunately there are several Dublin hostels right in this mix.
Barnacles Temple Bar House is probably the most famous hostel in town, and it’s located in the heart of this party district. Their cheapest beds are in their 10-bunk dorm rooms and they start around €23 per night, with smaller rooms having progressively higher prices. They also have a few twin and double-bed rooms with prices starting around €42 per person. This may sound like a lot for a hostel room, but check prices of actual hotels in the Temple Bar district and you’ll realize it’s a bargain. They do offer weekly rates outside of summer, so this takes a bit of the sting out of it if you are planning on hunkering down for a while.
If you are looking for something less expensive but still within walking distance of the Temple Bar district you might try Isaacs Hostel. They have private rooms with prices similar to Barnacles, but they also have 14-bed and 16-bed dorms with prices starting around €11 per night during low season.
For people making their Guinness pilgrimage, the Brewery Hostel is an option. They are located just steps from the famous brewery’s storehouse, and still within walking distance of the Temple Bar and other central attractions. A bunk in their 10-bed rooms starts around €18 per night, with twin en-suite rooms starting at around €40 per person. In spite of their location, they advertise that they are not a party hostel so this isn’t the place for people who don’t know how to turn off their own switch when they get back for the night.
If you are looking for a wild time at your Dublin hostel you are probably best off staying directly in or near the Temple Bar district as these places have a greater understanding that the city has a big reputation to live up to among drinkers, and the party does often spill over into the dorm rooms late into the evening.
