Make no mistake, hostels in Bologna are not your typical backpacker castles. Bologna hostels cater to a crowd who like to spend their nights in style and are more concerned with adjectives like "quaint" and "charming" than "cheap."

For getting in and out of the city, Bologna is a transportation hub and should have plenty of trains and buses to every destination to get you where you need to be when you need to be there.

There are many sights in Bologna and the town draws a fair number of visitors each year. In the summer months of July and August when nearly the whole of Europe goes on vacation the hostels in Bologna can fill up. Bologna's attractions are mainly architectural wonders, but don't think that you'll be able to cruise through them in a single day. Bologna's six basilica's (including those of San Domenico and San Petronio) can take that long, not to mention the masterpiece Il Duomo—The Dome—which is so fantastic it usurps the name from domed churches everywhere.

Beyond buildings, Bologna has very interesting museums like the Archeological museum and the National Picture Gallery. The National Picture Gallery holds the most famous works from the school of art that rose to prominence in Bologna in the 14th century. These works are on display in the city where they were conceived and constructed; the National Picture Gallery is like reading Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon or reading The Decameron in Florence. Works by Raphael, Guido Reni, and a four-paneled painting that is thought to be the work of Italian master Giotto are on display in the Gallery.

No matter what you choose to see and do, a stay in a Bologna hostel will ensure that you are comfortable and well-rested for your trip. Bologna is also located as a central railway and transportation hub for the entire country so getting in from wherever you came from and out to your next destination should be quite easy.

Although Bologna's hostels are not considered your typical hostel accommodations, a stay in the city is a great excuse to treat yourself to a private room and shower. Nothing feels better after several weeks traveling than to sit back after a long day seeing some of the most beautiful buildings and wonderful works of art in all of Italy and being able to forget about everything.
